“Perception” | Cropped Denim Vest

I was inspired by the quote, "When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression". Privilege often creates a lens that distorts our perception of fairness—what feels like losing something is often just others gaining what they’ve always deserved. I channeled this idea into the patchwork design on this denim vest.

These eyes represent awareness - the ability to see beyond our own experiences and recognize the systems that shape our perspectives. The colors  and prints symbolize diversity and the beauty that comes from embracing different voices and stories.

This vest isn’t just about fashion - it’s about visibility, about wearing a message that challenges assumptions and sparks conversations. Every time you put it on, i hope you’re reminded that true equality doesn’t diminish anyone; it just means everyone gets a fair share.

Refashioning with a Purpose

It takes a disturbing 2,000 gallons of water to produce just one pair of jeans - water often drawn from vulnerable, water-scarce communities. Even more troubling, 80% of fast fashion denim eventually ends up in landfills, despite being a highly recyclable material.

My contribution to sustainability may be small, but every garment saved from the landfill makes a difference. Each piece in my collection starts as a thrifted fast fashion item, carefully repaired, reimagined, and sometimes dyed to give it a fresh start. Every creation is one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully handcrafted by me, with the goal of extending its life and reducing its environmental footprint.
