Kali is Punk | Refashioned Denim Vest

When embarking on the journey of building a sustainable fashion brand, you quickly grasp the immense potential held within every scrap of fabric. Take, for instance, the vibrant and colorful patches adorning this recycled denim vest, each originating from a larger Hindu mythology wall hanging featured in my recent “Culture Not Costume” series.

In this latest creation, I've curated an abstract array of Indian elements, incorporating Devi symbolism because, in my view, Kali epitomizes the essence of punk rock. Hence, why not infuse this rebellious spirit into a garment depicting her? It's all about embracing the unconventional with a touch of humor.

Consider this: the production of a single pair of jeans consumes a staggering 2,000 gallons of water, often at the expense of marginalized communities. Tragically, a whopping 80% of these fast fashion denim pieces eventually find their way into landfills, despite denim being easily recyclable. It's a cycle we must break.

Here's where my commitment to sustainability shines through: each item in this collection is sourced from thrifted fast fashion garments, meticulously repaired, reworked, and transformed through two-toned tie-dye techniques, breathing new life into them. Every piece is unique, meticulously handcrafted by yours truly, offering a fresh perspective on conscious consumption.
